About – dishmum
Hazel

Hi, my name is
Hazel!

And dishmum is my little corner of the internet!

I’m the voice, author, and creator behind dishmum. The idea sparked in 2017 while I was still working full‑time as a graphic designer in Asheville, NC. I started posting quick, family‑friendly recipes on a tiny WordPress blog during my lunch breaks, just to see if anyone else loved the same “one‑pot, one‑pan” meals I was making for my kids. By early 2018 I officially launched dishmum, and the first post – a lemon‑garlic shrimp pasta – got 312 views in its first week.

Fast forward to today: dishmum now averages 45,000 unique visitors each month, has a newsletter with 8,200 subscribers, and features more than 120 tested recipes. In March 2024 we hit a milestone of 10,000 Instagram followers, and the site was featured in Southern Living for “Everyday Meals Made Easy.” I’ve also added a weekly video series on YouTube, which currently sits at 75,000 total views. All of this grew from a kitchen table notebook and a lot of trial‑and‑error.

When I’m not stirring a pot or tweaking a recipe, I’m usually out hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains with my husband Mark and our two kids, Lily (7) and Noah (4). Our backyard garden supplies the herbs that flavor most of my dishes, and on rainy evenings you’ll find me curled up with a jazz record and a cup of chai, planning the next week’s menu. One quirky habit of mine? I keep a tiny notebook in my apron pocket for “food epiphanies” – the moment a flavor click happens while I’m chopping.
